Competencies: Roles & Responsibilities, Teamwork

Your eyes can reveal what's happening throughout your body. From high blood pressure and brain swelling to blood clots, immune disorders, neurological diseases, and infections, eye care professionals can detect critical warning signs of serious systemic illness. When optometrists identify these findings, they can engage patients and communicate with other healthcare providers to support timely diagnosis, coordinated care, and appropriate treatment.

This session explores how comprehensive eye exams serve as an important screening tool and how interprofessional collaboration can improve patient outcomes and, in some cases, be life-saving.

Participation may be applied toward the Interprofessional Honors Distinction application to earn a nationally recognized digital credential that highlights students鈥 collaborative team skills for excellence in clinical and community practice. All 色中色官网 students are welcome to apply. All requirements must be complete prior to March 1 of students鈥 graduating year:

Presented in collaboration with: New England College of Optometry and the Master of Public Health program

鈥淚 learned how much interprofessional collaboration is needed and how access is so limited. There aren't many community clinics I know about, so making myself aware of other clinics and providers is important.鈥
