David Livingstone Smith interviewed on Huffington Post Live on violence

David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., professor of philosophy, was interviewed on August 25, 2014, on "Huffington Post Live" to discuss the effect on society of its consumption of violence through books, television, and movies.

Smith made the point that the violence that we see in the media is a 鈥渃leaned up version,鈥 lacking the true gore of real violence.  When asked if exposure to real violence might deter people鈥檚 fascination with brutality, Smith responded: 鈥淰iolence is serious business鈥 think it鈥檚 a moral imperative for people to become acquainted with this and to think about it and to do decide what they want to do with it.鈥
